You, for the information of the Secretary Cardwell, that before My Lords sanction the proposed increase of Salary to this Officer, They would wish to be informed of the circumstances which led to his salary being raised in 1861 from £60 to £100,
and whether the duty of collecting fees, which is referred to in Mr Saunders' application for increased salary, is one newly imposed.
Though this increase of salary is provided for in the Estimates of the current year, My Lords do not observe that it is mentioned by the Governor in his explanatory despatch of the 23rd of September, which accompanied them.
